School Committee Approves Gorman Pathway Naming, Modular Project Update

North Reading School Committee names a pathway for a late teacher, advances a $3.5 million school project. The board voted unanimously to name a new J. Turner Hood Elementary outdoor labyrinth path the "Gorman Pathway to Possibilities" for teacher and nurse Christy Gorman, with Superintendent Dr.
Daly recalling her chasing a runaway student "mouthing a few choice words." Officials confirmed the Hood School modular consolidation will go before an October 5 town meeting and the November ballot as a $3.5 million debt exclusion, down sharply from earlier estimates. The board voted 5-0 to adopt its 2026-27 goals, approved a second reading of student data-privacy policy ACL, reappointed Dr. Daly to two regional education collaborative boards, and accepted $18,192.80 in donations, including $16,711.57 for a Batchelder School playground.
Dr. Daly also disclosed a phishing incident that spoofed a district employee's email account.
