Maynard Finance Committee recommends five town meeting articles

Finance Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026

Maynard Finance Committee clears five warrant articles, withholds two over unanswered budget questions. Chair Jillian Prendergast walked the panel through a shrinking 12-article Special Town Meeting warrant, winning unanimous roll-call recommendations on zoning changes for a housing density bonus and the Mill and Main Place healthcare-industrial district, a wireless tower certification fix, new Assabet River Rail Trail benches, and a fire alarm fee hike from $75-$200 to $100-$300. Member Linda Holt pressed for an explanation of a roughly $40,000 jump in the town's unemployment insurance line, saying "I think they should really investigate that unemployment rather than moving more money into it." The committee withheld recommendations on that general fund amendment and on a new electricity-aggregation stabilization fund tied to Maynard Power Choice, sending both to the October 13 town meeting floor without a position.

Fire Chief Lawless's figures showed the town's $12,000-a-year monitoring service undercutting the roughly $1,000-per-account commercial rate.
