Newton Finance Committee backs $3 million Family Access property buy tied to future police headquarters plans. The committee voted unanimously to authorize acquiring the former Family Access building near police headquarters for just under $3 million, with Chief Operating Officer Morse calling it "an incredible opportunity" that could serve as swing space or a permanent headquarters site once a feasibility study concludes. Assistant City Solicitor Annunziato secured two reduced insurance settlements: $11,691.81 for a city yard-waste truck that backed into a parked SUV, and $11,500 with Bay State Insurance Company after a city crew cut a Charles Bay Condominium Association electrical line, down from an initial claim of about $25,500.
The committee also redirected $623,130.15 in surplus Cabot School bond proceeds to the Franklin School project, accepted a $23,040 MEMA emergency-management grant for a portable power unit, and approved reimbursing the Commission on Disability's July Pride event costs.
