Arlington School Committee adopts Protect Act compliance policy, 7-0. The vote formalizes procedures Arlington Public Schools have followed since 2024 for engaging with federal immigration enforcement, required under the state law Gov. Maura Healey signed Aug. 5.
Superintendent Homan said the district "will not allow individuals into the schools who are disrupting a learning environment" and will defer credential questions to legal counsel. Separately, the committee granted eighth graders Sona McEwen and Matilda McGrath a one-time fundraising exception for a Dana-Farber Cancer Institute benefit, approved a roughly $200,000 diesel bus purchase discussion, and heard that Arlington Community Education's Summer Fun program served more than 2,000 students this year, up 77 percent since 2022. The meeting opened with a moment of silence for Ian Sotelo-Newhall, a rising junior who died over the summer.
