Ayer-Shirley Committee Names Treasurer, Approves Cell Phone Ban
School Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Ayer-Shirley School Committee appoints new treasurer, adopts bell-to-bell cell phone ban. The committee voted unanimously to appoint Cammie Lamacchia, CPA, as district treasurer effective September 16, and to extend a bell-to-bell personal electronics policy to the high school this fall. The district's medication program manager warned new state rules could make out-of-state trips "cost prohibitive" since Massachusetts nurses cannot legally administer medication across state lines.
Members also struck a handbook sentence requiring a valedictorian and salutatorian and voted to approve the 2026-27 handbook as amended. Superintendent Dr. Renda announced state Sen.
Cronin, Sen. Eldridge and Rep. Sina will deliver a ceremonial check October 9 for $300,000 in secured funding, $150,000 each for high school and middle school auditorium renovations, and reported the district corrected a years-old accounting error that had made its student activities account appear to run a deficit since 2019.
