Capital Panel Shifts $700,000 From Roof to IT Security Request

Wayland's Capital Improvement Planning Committee shifted $700,000 from a delayed Town Hall roof repair to an expanded IT cybersecurity request. Acting Chair Bradford Carver said the five-year cybersecurity compliance line item has grown to $1.8 million, up from an original $300,000, with a new $700,000 line added for fiscal 2028 alone. Member Elizabeth Lusky, joining remotely, pressed on whether "we've captured the full extent of the cost, or is this going to grow." The panel deferred the $700,000 Town Hall roof phase to fiscal 2029 and again set aside a $2.7 million baseball field renovation request, up from $2.5 million, in its unfunded "purgatory" bucket; Lusky said the project "seems like a nice to have versus we've got cybersecurity costs." The committee also caught a $405,000 accounting entry that exceeded its $350,000 appropriation while reviewing the town's MUNIS financial report.
Members voted 3-0 to approve the September 9 minutes and 3-0 to adjourn.
