Wayland capital committee reviews $970K middle school fire alarm as manufacturer drops support. Facilities Director Mike Fahey told the Capital Improvement Planning Committee on August 24 that Notifier has discontinued support for the middle school's fire alarm devices, forcing a full rewire and pushing the request from a $200,000 fiscal 2030 placeholder to a $970,000 engineer's estimate from TimBond. Fahey moved the Loker School fire alarm replacement to fiscal 2029 to accommodate the middle school work.
He also raised the fiscal 2031 district-wide school roof line from $1.8 million to $4.25 million after a roof survey flagged Claypit Hill and the middle school. Acting Chair Bradford Carver led the session; member Kelly Lappin pressed for consistent rules on whether facility projects sit in the facilities or DPW budget line. The committee approved the August 19 minutes unanimously and set its next meeting for August 31.
