Lexington Planning Board Approves Two MBTA-Zoning Housing Developments

Lexington Planning Board approves two MBTA-zoning housing projects on 5-0 votes. Chair Bob Creech presided as the board closed hearings and approved a 31-unit development at 80 Bedford Street and a six-unit townhome project at 5 and 7 Spring Street, the town's first application under its revised MBTA Communities bylaw. Lois Lane resident Cerise Jalalian said "the idea of six buildings does overburden a 1.1-acre single-family rear yard," while neighbor Marcia Steer questioned parking capacity for the Bedford Street project.
Creech countered that "the applicant has actually gone beyond what the bylaw requires." The Bedford Street project's parking count was trimmed from 37 to 35 spaces, and its tree mitigation plan calls for 147 inches of new planting against a 130-inch requirement. The Spring Street project carries 56 conditions. Planning Director Abby McCabe announced she is moving to assistant town manager for development, with Megan Roach stepping in as interim planning director.
