Lexington students pack school committee meeting to push for a second Unified Basketball team. More than a dozen speakers, led by football captain Michael Denoncourt, urged the board to reverse a decision limiting the program to one team this fall, which parent Jean Gray said leaves ninth graders waiting until spring while volleyball gets "an entire fall season." Athletic Director Naomi Martin said 51 students are enrolled in the district's ILP and DLP programs and cited gym-space limits shared with volleyball as the obstacle. The committee took no vote but added the issue to a future agenda.
Separately, the board approved its consent agenda 5-0, including a $4,847,750.58 payroll warrant, and gave first reading to a new policy, prompted by the state's "Protect Act," requiring the superintendent to inform the committee within 48 hours of any civil law enforcement action at a school.
