Board OKs fish-cleaning variance for seafood shop

Board of Health · Meeting of October 7, 2026

Lowell Board of Health unanimously grants a Pine Street seafood market the right to clean whole fish for customers. The board voted 5-0 to let I Got Crabs & Seafood, 6 Pine Street, descale and eviscerate finfish under a hazard-control plan owner Phan Trieu called meticulous enough that Sr. Sanitary Code Inspector Matthew Sheehan called it "one of the best" he's reviewed.

Members also approved a new funeral director's license for Mahoney Funeral Home, 4-1 with one abstention. Health and Human Services Director Lisa Golden briefed the board on a MassDEP cleanup report for a 75-gallon lubricating-oil spill at 2 Tanner Street, tied to a Markley Group data-center-adjacent parcel, and flagged "it's a super toxic site for the whole street" as a thread to watch. A tuberculosis contact-tracing gap, 16 cases but only seven identified contacts, drew pointed board questions.
