Board of Health Backs BESS Zoning, OKs Sink Variance

Board of Health · Meeting of October 5, 2026

Westford Board of Health backs battery storage zoning and grants a tattoo studio a sink variance. Members Stephanie Granger, Joanne Belanger, Stephan Goupil and Maeghan Hughes voted 4-0 to support the planning board's September 29 revised clean-energy siting and permitting bylaw ahead of the October 26 Special Town Meeting, after Belanger objected to voting on a "42 page, 43 page document" she'd had little time to study. Fire Prevention Officer Ryan Mona briefed the board on battery fire risks and decommissioning rules.

The board also granted Body Art by Vero owner Veronica Sullivan a two-month variance to use a neighboring business's mop sink while she installs a required hand sink at 175 Littleton Road. Staff also pitched a $75,000 capital request for 44 AEDs, some over 21 years old, heading to capital committee in November.
