Board Presses Eversource on New Substation Permits

Burlington Board of Health presses Eversource on an unnecessary substation bathroom. Eversource Community Relations Representative Peter Bowman and a team of engineers and consultants outlined plans for a new substation at 0 Locust Street, part of the Burlington Energy Project, which also includes 2.5 miles of new transmission line and about 12.6 miles of underground distribution line. A board member repeatedly challenged a state-mandated unisex bathroom for the unoccupied facility, pressing Eversource to seek a Title 5 variance instead of a septic system sited nearly 1,900 feet from sewer service and calling Burlington a potential "test case" under the state's newly changed plumbing code.
Eversource said it plans to file with the state Energy Facility Siting Board by year's end. Environmental Engineer Christine Mathis reported about 230 cars at the town's household hazardous waste day, and Director of Public Health Susan Lumenello said only 10 people had signed up for an upcoming flu clinic after 60 high-dose shots were given the week before.
