Select Board Votes to Start Health Insurance Overhaul
Other Committee · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Westford Select Board votes 4-0 to formally begin changing employee health insurance. The board approved a motion to engage in the process of changing health benefits to a deductible plan with co-pays under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 32B, Sections 21-23, after staff member Kristen explained the vote was a statutory step required beyond the Health Insurance Trust's August plan-design approval. Board Chair Chris insisted the exact motion be read "to the word" and emphasized "there is no change to the retiree benefits," noting the plan affects only active employees and early retirees.
The board also approved a one-day special liquor license for Good Pickin' Farm's October 10 Oktoberfest at 5 Gould Road. Staff member Mike is taking over health insurance trust duties from Kristen, who is leaving the role, with the next step a proposed October 15 Insurance Advisory Committee meeting followed by negotiations with the Public Employees Committee.
