Disability commission votes to pursue ADA improvement grant

Tyngsborough Disability Commission votes to seek state ADA grant for parks, doors and communication boards. The commission unanimously backed a motion from Clerk Karen Wolf directing Select Board's Office liaison Sean Walsh to apply for a Massachusetts Office on Disability improvement grant, capped at $250,000. Walsh priced accessibility work at Wickersham and Bridge Meadow fields at $125,294 with a 10 percent contingency after recommending the commission drop pricier Bicentennial Fields, which would have pushed costs toward $425,000.

The application will also include roughly $3,000 apiece for communication boards and nearly $20,000 for accessible doors at the police station, Old Town Hall and the Center for Active Living, after the town's AARP Community Challenge grant was rejected. Members also flagged bus-signup confusion and illegible closed-captioning screens from this month's town meeting, saying "we need help with our playgrounds" and recommending the building inspector attend a future meeting.
