Tewksbury Finance Committee reviews fall warrant topped by ambulance funding and surveillance rules. Resident James Mackey petitioned for two bylaws regulating police surveillance technology and license plate readers, prompting an hour of questions on data retention and audits. Town Manager Sean Kern said $6.9 million in free cash and $1.2 million in new state aid will fund $1,007,900 in budget amendments without raising the levy, which holds at $122,015,275.
The biggest item is $355,000 to staff a second ambulance full-time, after the fire department logged 5,100 responses last year, up 39 percent since 2020. "Tewksbury needs at least 14 firefighters on duty 24-7-365," the retiring fire chief said. Kern also said the town has lost $1.7 million in state grants for not complying with the MBTA Communities Act, which two warrant articles aim to fix.
No votes were taken; a public hearing on all 22 articles is set for September 28.
