Sudbury Energy Committee funds $6,250 flood modeling upgrade and weighs new heat metric. The Energy and Sustainability Committee voted 6-0 Tuesday to spend $6,250 from the solar revolving fund on BSC Group regional inland flood modeling to strengthen the town's climate change vulnerability assessment, after member Olga Faktorovich Allen noted 84.5 percent of flood damage incidents between 2006 and 2020 occurred outside FEMA high-risk floodplains. Chair Rami Alwan and Faktorovich Allen reported the Select Board was supportive at a February 3 briefing, but the Park and Recreation Commission has not revisited its December vote against the Haskell Field solar array ahead of May Town Meeting.

The committee also heard from the Global Heat Reduction Initiative's Kiff, Jennifer and Zoe on a "total climate footprint" methodology that measures short-lived super pollutants like methane and black carbon. Member Nate Grazio pushed to replace the word "fight" in the committee's draft objectives, saying it "can be awfully alienating."
