Sudbury sustainability committee advances Haskell solar canopy amid Article 97 review

Sudbury's Energy and Sustainability Committee worked through legal and political hurdles facing the Haskell Field solar canopy at its March 17 meeting. Facilities Director Sandra Duran said the town has signed a power purchase agreement covering three canopy projects and that Eversource will soon inspect Haskell for gear placement, while KP Law attorney Lee Smith's opinion on whether Article 97 applies was headed to the Select Board that evening. Committee member Olga reported that Select Board member Charlie Russo has drafted a letter to the state commissioner seeking approval to proceed without a two-thirds legislative vote.

Sustainability Coordinator Eric said the town is targeting a June 30 Climate Leader Communities application and is close to signing a contract with the BSC Group for an inland flooding model. Members warned that trust with the Parks and Recreation Commission is "a governance, trust and transparency issue" beyond the canopy itself.
