Sudbury sustainability committee funds lawn sign campaign as solar canopies head to town meeting. The Energy and Sustainability Committee voted unanimously Tuesday to spend up to $1,000 on 50 lawn signs supporting three municipal solar canopy projects at the May 4 town meeting, one day after the Park and Recreation Commission voted 3-2 against the flagship Haskell Field canopy. Sustainability Director Sandra said the Haskell project represents "$2.2 million cost avoidance over 25 years" with no town investment, though savings dropped after Eversource required additional transformer equipment.

The Finance Committee backed all three projects, at Haskell, Curtis Middle School, and the police station, on a 7-0 vote last week. Sustainability Coordinator Eric also reported the Select Board approved a zero-emissions vehicle first policy and will consider an updated sustainable purchasing policy April 28, replacing a 1996 version now required for state recycling dividend eligibility.
