Sudbury Conservation Commission approves Bruce Freeman ramp amendment, revises Goodman's Hill herbicide plan

SUDBURY — June 29, 2026 — Sudbury Conservation Commission scales back herbicide use near a wetland at 94 Goodman's Hill Road. At its June 29 virtual meeting, the seven-member commission unanimously issued an order of conditions for applicants Laurent Demonte and Kelly Culver but amended the plan to allow only a single foliar herbicide application, followed by mowing and hand-pulling, on a roughly 8,000-square-foot area described by BSC Associates' Dave Crossman as about 80 percent oriental bittersweet within 10 feet of the wetland. Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz opened the pushback, saying he does not "typically like foliar application if we can do cut and dab," and Conservation Coordinator Lori Capone noted bittersweet seeds remain viable for 10 to 12 years. The commission also unanimously issued an amended order of conditions for the MassDOT-Fuss & O'Neill redesign of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail connector ramp (DEP 301-1362), lifted an enforcement order at 73 Wayside Inn Road, and issued a negative determination of applicability for lawn restoration at 882 Boston Post Road.
