Select Board Proclaims 350th Anniversary of the Sudbury Fight
SUDBURY — The Select Board this week proclaimed the 350th anniversary of the Sudbury Fight, the violent 1676 clash that stands among the deadliest episodes in the town's early history. The recognition arrived alongside renewed public health warnings, as officials confirmed West Nile virus in mosquitoes tested near Hudson and Marlborough and issued a separate air quality alert.
TOWN HALL
The Select Board issued a proclamation this week recognizing the 350th anniversary of the Sudbury Fight, the April 21, 1676, clash between English colonists and Native Americans that officials described as one of the most violent episodes in the town's history. The Board of Health renewed two seasonal warnings this week. Mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus have turned up in neighboring Hudson and Marlborough, prompting an advisory urging residents to limit outdoor exposure at dawn and dusk and use repellent. Separately, the town issued an air quality alert on July 16 with safety tips for residents sensitive to poor air conditions.
The Department of Public Works' annual paving project, run by contractor Sunshine Paving, is underway after starting July 13. Crews plan a detour on Concord Road beginning Friday, July 17, as part of the work.

Sudbury Public Schools posted the agenda packet this week for the School Committee's July 20 meeting, along with notice of a July 17 executive session. The committee has two more sessions on the calendar before summer ends — a July 27 workshop and a regular meeting August 3.

The Sudbury Senior Center has booked "Game Shows and Pizza" with Kevin Richman, a program from Game Shows To Go that brings live versions of Family Feud, Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune to the center this month. The Parks and Recreation Commission is also hosting a pair of FIFA World Cup watch parties at the Fairbank Community Center this weekend.
