School Building Committee OKs 60% MSBA Submission
School Building Committee · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Lexington School Building Committee votes unanimously to submit its 60% design to the state. Vice Chair Mike Brunner reported the design estimate, checked independently by A.M. Fogarty and Turner Construction, landed at $532.5 million against a $534.1 million budget, a $1.6 million savings redirected into escalation contingency rather than design contingency.
Committee member John Himmel said the finance oversight subcommittee is building a framework to track contract changes, noting "we are concerned about making sure that the initial contracts are in alignment with the budget." Construction superintendent Dan Schoeller said DEP wetland-permitting delays persist, pushing pile driving to mid-to-late October. A staffer told the panel the project's MSBA funding agreement finally arrived. Resident Don McKenna, of 9 Hancock Street, objected during public comment that "there are too many colors outside" on the exterior design.
