Lexington School Panel Reworks Cost Dashboard, Delays Minutes Vote
School Building Committee · Meeting of July 30, 2026
Lexington school building panel reworks cost dashboard ahead of first construction bond sale. The financial subcommittee spent Thursday's meeting refining the public dashboard for the roughly $659 million school project, pressing for clearer labeling of contingency funds and asking that owner-controlled reserves, split between a $26.7 million construction contingency and a $4.4 million soft-cost contingency, be combined into a single $31.1 million figure. Mike Burton of the owner's project manager team explained a roughly $14 million gap between $19,020,039 billed to date and about $5.6 million submitted for state reimbursement, attributing it to a delayed MSBA project funding agreement expected within about two weeks.
"We confirmed that they should be done with their review in two weeks," Burton said. A town financial representative said the project's first major construction bond sale is expected in a competitive sale at the end of August, likely "in the tens or potentially hundreds of million dollars," with rates modeled around 4 percent versus roughly 2 percent on the town's last issuance in February.
