Cambridge Planning Board unanimously backs rewritten short-term rental ordinance, but pushes back on a 90-day cap. The board voted 7-0 to recommend the Section 4.60 zoning amendments, which add a new "autonomous unit" rental category, require booking platforms like Airbnb to register with the city, and let Inspectional Services fine noncompliant platforms $300 per violation per day. City data shows 716 short-term rentals operating in Cambridge, only 216 registered.

Member Ted Cohen called the cap's justification "the 64,000-dollar question," and Assistant City Solicitor Sydney Wright called 90 days "sort of a placeholder." More than ten hosts testified against the cap, saying rental income helps cover mortgages and house family. The City Council's Ordinance Committee takes up the petition August 19.
