North Reading rolls out new trash and recycling rules

DATELINE — NORTH READING

North Reading's new trash and recycling guidelines took effect July 1, the town said in a notice posted to its website, marking the most significant item directly affecting residents as the week opens.

TOWN HALL

The town is directing residents to review its "Important Update: New Trash & Recycling Guidelines Effective July 1, 2026" notice, posted to the municipal website's News & Announcements feed. The town did not detail the specific changes in the posted summary; residents are directed to the full notice for particulars.

Separately, the town is continuing to promote sign-ups for "Smart911," a service that lets residents provide first responders with household safety information ahead of an emergency call. The town's website frames it as an ongoing public-safety tool available to any resident.

COMING UP

The town has scheduled truck-mounted aerosol mosquito spraying for Thursday, July 23, according to a notice on the municipal website; residents with concerns about the treatment are directed to the town's posted guidance.

Several town meetings are set for the week ahead: a Narcan training session, a Parks & Recreation Committee meeting and a Select Board hybrid meeting are all scheduled for Monday, July 20, followed by a Board of Registrars meeting Tuesday, July 21, per the town's online calendar.
