TOWNSEND — North Middlesex school committee adopts 12 policies and clears spring trips amid records-request strain. Superintendent Brad Morgan reported the smoothest school opening in his nine years, with kindergarten class sizes at Squannacook down to 22.4 students after the district added a section using revolving funds. Administrative Assistant Robin Ivey told the committee the district has fielded 46 public records requests this year, one generating over 110 communications with legal counsel, while state law caps the fee at $25 an hour.
"It does have a significant impact on our workload and costs," Ivey said. Member Jackie White called the volume "this sounds unsustainable." The committee unanimously approved eighth-grade Washington, D.C. trips costing $1,295 and $1,000, Nature's Classroom trips at $495 and $400, and appointed Alexander Bancouti as its 2026 MASC delegate.
