Dover-Sherborn School Committee Approves Building Plans, Reports Surplus

SHERBORN — Dover-Sherborn School Committee closes fiscal 2026 with a $253,000 surplus and flags a costly shift ahead. Business Administrator Dawn told the committee revenue and operating results combined for roughly $253,000, with about $53,000 rolling into reserves after $200,000 was applied to the fiscal 2027 budget. The district will now absorb all out-of-district special education costs for grades six through twelve, an early estimate pegging the added expense at roughly $600,000; Dawn called the district "not flush at all" heading into the new year.
The committee approved middle and high school improvement plans and a consent agenda, including field trips to Orlando and Washington, D.C., by 5-0 roll calls. New member Kevin Gervano called the finance briefing "really helpful," praising its "transparency and thorough review." A high school roof project and a beam-related structural repair near the nurse's office, expected to cost $50,000 to $60,000, were also reviewed.
