Maynard School Committee Approves $25.575 Million FY27 Budget Unanimously

MAYNARD — April 30, 2026 — Maynard School Committee unanimously approves $25.575 million FY27 budget while flagging a school choice account running low. The committee voted 4-0 Thursday evening to adopt the fiscal year 2027 Maynard Public Schools spending plan, spread across six cost centers with the largest — Cost Center 2000 — at $18,610,781. Superintendent Brian Haas said the budget is balanced through roughly $150,000 from a preschool revolving account, $50,000 from school choice, and $200,000 in attrition savings from retirements, landing within $2,500 of the town's allocation of $25,177,500. Committee member Natasha Rivera warned that the school choice revolving account, which has been drawn down by more than $100,000 annually since fiscal year 2023 against state-estimated receipts of roughly $72,000, could reach a zero balance within five years — "that is our most flexible account," she said. The committee also approved a February 2027 student exchange trip to Spain, 4-0, and heard a facilities report flagging two aging Fowler sewer pumps estimated to cost just over $21,000 to replace and a Fowler roof replacement requiring an MSBA application opening in January 2027.
