Littleton Conservation Commission Pushes Dock Decision to February as Options Multiply

LITTLETON — January 6, 2026 — Littleton Conservation Commission hears three dock licensing proposals for town-owned lakeshore parcel, targets February 3 vote. At the January 6 Zoom meeting, resident Dustin Neild of 17 Lake Shore Drive presented three frameworks on behalf of neighboring dock maintainers for eight unpermitted docks on Parcel U12-14-0 along Lake Shore Drive, ranging from semi-private licensing to a fully public model with licensed boat slips on one half of each dock and open public access on the other. Neild reported that five of the eight docks have active maintainers, two are abandoned, and one is slated for removal, and argued the neighborhood-favored range of six to nine docks exceeds the commission's own prior high-end alternative of three to four. Co-chair Chase Gerbig said he would consult with Town Counsel on liability and legal authority before the February 3 hearing, telling the public, "Our role here is to ensure that public access and public resources are managed in the public interest." The commission also continued a Notice of Intent for a state-required rare-species habitat enhancement at 0 Whitcomb Avenue connected to the Littleton Electric Light and Water Department's Trumbull Well project, on track for fall 2026 completion, and sent a Habitat for Humanity single-family proposal at 87 Tahattawan Road back for five plan revisions including native-species tree specifications and buffer-zone boulder demarcation. The Massachusetts Appeals Court affirmed the commission's Amended Order of Conditions in the long-running 6 Cottage Way litigation.
