Concord Panel Hears Five Capital Grant Requests
Other Committee · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Concord preservation panel hears five funding pitches that could outstrip its annual grant pool. The Community Preservation Committee took no votes but reviewed requests including $532,500 for a path linking Concord Middle School to the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, $500,000 for the Concord Municipal Affordable Housing Trust and $500,000 to rebuild Alcott Elementary's playground. Trust Chairman Matt Johnson said the panel typically has "around 2 million bucks" a year to distribute, while Alcott Principal Naomi described a playground where "the yellow banana slide has caution tape around it a lot." The Concord Free Public Library Corporation also sought help restoring rotunda lighting, citing a $207,000 funding gap, and the Walden Woods Project asked for trail and parking improvements near Bear Garden Hill.
No votes were taken; the committee will rank requests later.
