Concord Commission Imposes One-Year Demolition Delay on Historic Nine Acre Corner Clubhouse

CARLISLE — June 11, 2026 — Concord Historical Commission voted unanimously to designate the Nine Acre Corner golf clubhouse at 246 Old Road as preferably preserved, imposing a one-year demolition delay on the 1860 barn-turned-clubhouse. Applicant Greg Sanota told the commission the golf club's membership has not yet decided whether to demolish or renovate the aging structure, but filed the review preemptively to avoid losing an additional year to the delay period should demolition be chosen — a strategy modeled on a prior applicant at the Deaconess property. Commission staff identified the building's 1913 conversion by architects Thomas Mott Shaw and Andrew Hepburn as one of the earliest preservation efforts in Concord. Planning Board member Alan Bogosian, speaking as a private citizen, urged commission members to visit the site, noting that locker rooms and bathrooms occupy a low-ceilinged basement and the structure functions unlike a conventional clubhouse. The commission also scheduled a special meeting for June 18 to respond within a federal 30-day Section 106 window triggered by a proposed 170-foot cell tower at the town landfill, near the Walden Pond National Historic Landmark.
