Carlisle NRC Elects New Chair, Advances Boardwalk and Two Town Permits

Carlisle's Natural Resources Commission unanimously elected Jim Smith as its new chair at the May 13 meeting, replacing outgoing Chair Sarah Brunwood in her final session. The commission also appointed Ed Nardi as its liaison to the Community Preservation Committee and approved minutes for February and March. The board continued to its June 3 meeting the most significant pending application — a roughly 375-foot pedestrian boardwalk at 207X Level Road filed by the Concord Land Conservation Trust, with engineer Matthew Costa of Beals Associates saying the sole remaining issue is a no-rise floodway determination showing 0.02 feet of modeled rise that must be brought to zero under state rules.

The commission issued unanimous Negative Determinations for two town conservation projects: an 800-foot trail relocation at the Town Forest and a dry-laid stone wall rebuild at Haywood Meadow on Lexington Street. A first hearing on a $500,000 MassDOT-funded sidewalk along Walden Street from Magnolia Drive to Bristol Hill Road was also continued to June 3 pending staff comment responses.
