Boxborough board votes to pursue joining Devens hazardous waste site

Boxborough Select Board votes to join a regional hazardous waste site and closes its fall warrant. The board voted 5-0 to pursue joining the Devens Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collaborative after DPW Director Ed Kukla found the town's current $10,000-every-two-years collection insufficient; residents would instead pay $6.50 per gallon or pound at Devens up to 20 days a year. The board added an 11th warrant article seeking up to $6,000 in free cash to cover the switch.
Members also voted 5-0 to close the 12-article warrant for the November 16 Fall Town Meeting, which includes a $1.475 million purchase of Middle Road land and a temporary data center moratorium; created a gift account for Economic Development Committee sponsorships tied to the October 3 Village for a Day; raised the threshold for staff-approved town gifts to $250; and appointed Kelley Price to the Economic Development Committee. Member Wesley Fowlks said, "I don't know if we will need to vote on this because we're trying to move towards more of like the strong town manager."
