Ayer Board of Health approves two new backyard chicken permits and reviews well regulations. Chair Pamela L. Papineau and member Patricia A.
Peters heard from district sanitarian Bridgette Pontbriand of Nashoba Associated Boards of Health, who reported a noise complaint on Westford Road, rat complaints on Washington Street, and no new issues with Maple Street roosters. The board unanimously approved fowl-keeping permits for 18 Tannery Street and 5 Forest Street and voted to pay Nashoba Associated Boards of Health $16,309.22 for its second quarter. Members agreed to tighten well regulations this winter, saying "if we have an area of known contamination, we don't want people putting wells in." The board also discussed shifting its opioid-abatement strategy toward a multi-year contract for a recovery coach or substance-abuse coordinator after the Riverbend organization backed out of an earlier funding arrangement, and accepted the August 10 meeting minutes.
