Weather Pushes Plaza Jazz Indoors, Delays Movie By The Lake
Unsettled weather forced the town to move Thursday's Plaza Jazz concert indoors and reschedule the WCAT Movies by the Lake screening, according to a town alert, as the library's outdoor concert series continued with a new performer despite the damp conditions.
TOWN HALL
The town issued an alert Thursday warning that "unsettled weather and damp outdoor conditions" would affect two signature summer events: Plaza Jazz and Movie by the Lake, according to the town's News Flash system. Plaza Jazz shifted indoors for the evening, while the Movie by the Lake screening was pushed to a later date.
Separately, the town reminded residents that nightly closures of the I-95 southbound ramp to Washington Street, part of a larger pavement preservation project, were set to continue each night through Friday, July 31, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library kept its summer lineup moving Thursday evening with "Plaza Jazz: The Smack Dabs" taking the stage at 6 p.m., bringing 1930s-style swing blues to the Plaza despite the day's weather-driven venue shuffle described in the town's alert.
The library's calendar also points to two near-term draws: a weekly Crafty Crochet & Knitting Club session Friday at 11 a.m. in the lecture hall, and an August 4 author talk with Smithsonian curator Paula J. Johnson, which requires registration for those who want to submit questions in advance.
