WAYS Boys Strikers qualify for MTOC Tournament
WAYLAND — Wayland Youth Soccer's 7th-8th grade Boys Strikers team has qualified for the MTOC Tournament, the club announced this week, as youth sports organizations across town rolled out fall registration and wrapped up summer facility projects. Wayland High School's varsity teams are between seasons, leaving youth leagues to carry the week's sports news.
YOUTH
Wayland Youth Soccer (WAYS) announced its 7th-8th grade Boys Strikers travel team is headed to the MTOC Tournament, congratulating the squad on the club's website. The announcement came alongside a thank-you to "Coaches, Players and Parents for a terrific Spring season" and the opening of Fall 2026 registration for grades K through 8.
WAYS is also restructuring its volunteer leadership as the club modernizes its operations, building out a committee system with a board sponsor attached to each group. Three committees are actively searching for chairs: Finance Advisory, Governance & Compliance, and Technology. Other committees already have leaders in place: Danielle Silverman chairs Coaching & Player Development, Lesley Stewart chairs Community, Events & Partnerships, Kelly Pierce chairs Fields & Scheduling, Matt DiRoberto and Sam Girgis co-chair Equipment & Merchandise, and Brud Wright chairs Referee Development. The club is directing interested volunteers to an online interest form.
Wayland Little League marked the completion of a new dugout project at Cochituate Park, built in partnership with the Eliza J. Norton Foundation's "Build with Heart" initiative. WLL served as a Champion Sponsor of the project. The league also has fall registration open now, with questions directed to registrar@waylandlittleleague.org. Separately, WLL President Greg Deranian presented the 2025 Maxine Gordon Award to Chris Fay, an honor highlighted on the league's homepage.
Wayland Youth Basketball Association (WYBA) announced that registration for its 2025-26 season — covering the Travel and In-Town programs for kindergarten through eighth grade, as well as the K-2 Winter Academy — will open August 18 at 6 p.m.
LOOKING AHEAD
Watch for WYBA's season registration to open August 18 at 6 p.m., a date that will set the pace for fall basketball evaluations and team formation. Wayland Little League and Wayland Youth Soccer both have fall registration windows open now for players in grades K through 8 and beyond, and the WAYS Boys Strikers' MTOC Tournament run is worth tracking as details emerge.
