Wayland Youth Soccer Sets Fall Coaches' Meeting For Tuesday
WAYLAND — With Wayland High School teams idle in the final full week of summer and no games on the ArbiterLive schedule, the week's lone local sports development comes from the youth ranks: Wayland Youth Soccer has scheduled its annual fall coaches' meeting for Tuesday, August 25.
YOUTH
Wayland Youth Soccer, known as WAYS, will hold the meeting from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Wayland Community Center, 8 Andrew Ave. The organization is calling in coaches, team managers, board members and committee chairs for the session, which will include a guest speaker from Revs Academy addressing "Supporting Positive Athlete Behavior Through Responsive Coaching" as part of Positive Coaching Alliance training.
WAYS said the rest of the agenda will cover essential information for grade-level coaches, the organization's coaching approach, its referee abuse prevention policy, guidance for newer coaches, volunteer opportunities within WAYS, and answers to frequently asked questions from past coaches' meetings. The club also plans to distribute credentials to coaches who have completed required training and registration.
The meeting comes as WAYS prepares for the start of its fall 2026 season on September 12 for players in grades K through 8, with registration currently open. The club continues to search for volunteer leaders to chair its Finance Advisory, Governance and Compliance, and Technology committees, part of a modernization push the organization has been promoting through the summer.
Wayland Little League's fall registration window has closed, and the organization said anyone with questions should contact its registrar. Wayland Youth Basketball Association has not yet opened registration for its 2026-27 season. Wayland Youth Lacrosse's site does not list new fall programming for this period.
LOOKING AHEAD
The marquee event on next week's local sports calendar is Tuesday's WAYS coaches' meeting at the Community Center, which sets the stage for the September 12 kickoff of the fall soccer season for grades K through 8. Wayland High School's fall sports preseason, including tryouts and early practices for teams such as soccer, field hockey and cross country, is expected to ramp up in the coming weeks as the school year approaches, though no official schedules had posted to ArbiterLive as of this period.
