Natick Youth Basketball opened registration for its 2026-27 travel, intramural and Hoopsters programs this week, and the Select Board considered a fall Town Meeting article to bring forward the town's turf field study report.

NATICK --

TOWN -- The Select Board, meeting Aug. 11, discussed a possible fall Town Meeting warrant article that would have the board sponsor a hearing on the final report of the town's Natural and Synthetic Turf Study Committee. Board members noted the group is a study committee rather than an official town committee, so it needs a sponsor to bring its report before town meeting; the board sponsored the group's report in the spring as well. Resident Dr. McKenzie told the board she supported hearing the report but questioned the optics of select board sponsorship, saying the study group "does not reflect the representation of other towns." The board expects to finalize warrant article language at its Aug. 18 meeting.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Natick Youth Basketball announced that registration is open for its 2026-27 fall and winter programs. Travel basketball, for grades 4-8, will hold tryouts over two weekends, Sept. 25-27 and Oct. 2-4, with players expected to attend both sessions for their grade; travel registration closes Sept. 27. The organization is also opening registration for Intramural Basketball, grades 1-8; Fall Hoopsters for grades K-3, held Saturdays Oct. 17 through Nov. 21 at Kennedy Middle School; and pre-season skills clinics for grades 4-8, running Sept. 13-30, also at Kennedy Middle School.
