Wayland Youth Soccer's Strikers Punch Ticket to MTOC Tournament
WAYLAND — With Wayland High School's teams idle for the summer, the week's most notable local sports news came out of the town's youth leagues. Wayland Youth Soccer's 7th-8th grade Boys Strikers team qualified for the MTOC Tournament, and Wayland Little League marked the completion of a new dugout project at Cochituate Park.

Wayland Youth Soccer (WAYS) announced that its 7th-8th grade Boys Strikers team is headed to the MTOC Tournament, the organization's lone competitive highlight of the week. WAYS also opened registration for the fall 2026 season for grades K through 8 and thanked coaches, players and parents for "a terrific Spring season." Separately, the organization is recruiting volunteers to lead three new committees — Finance Advisory, Governance & Compliance and Technology — as part of a broader modernization push; Danielle Silverman chairs Coaching & Player Development, Kelly Pierce chairs Fields & Scheduling, and Lesley Stewart chairs Community, Events & Partnerships.
Wayland Little League celebrated the completion of the Eliza J. Norton Foundation's "Build with Heart" dugout project at Cochituate Park, a facility upgrade the league said it was proud to help sponsor as a "Champion Sponsor." The league also recognized longtime volunteer Chris Fay, who received the Maxine Gordon Award from WLL President Greg Deranian. On the schedule side, spring registration has closed, but Wayland Little League's summer program registration remains open for players in grades pre-K through 10 across baseball and softball.
Wayland Youth Basketball Association (WYBA) reminded families that registration for its Kindergarten-through-8th-grade programs — covering the in-town and travel leagues as well as the K-2 Winter Academy — opens Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. No new results were posted this week by Wayland Youth Lacrosse or Wayland Youth Sports, which lists no events on its calendar during the summer stretch.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Strikers' MTOC Tournament run is the marquee event to watch as summer play continues, alongside Wayland Little League's ongoing summer baseball and softball season at Cochituate Park's newly completed dugouts. Families should also mark Aug. 18 at 6 p.m., when Wayland Youth Basketball Association opens registration for its winter programs.
