Wayland Strikers Soccer Team Books MTOC Tournament Berth
WAYLAND — Wayland Youth Soccer's seventh and eighth grade Boys Strikers team is headed to the MTOC tournament, the headline result in a week where local youth sports made more news than any Wayland High School squad, none of which had games on the schedule.

Wayland Youth Soccer (WAYS) confirmed its seventh and eighth grade Boys Strikers team qualified for the MTOC tournament, a notable result as the organization closes out its spring season. WAYS also opened registration for the fall 2026 season for grades K through 8.
Off the field, WAYS is recruiting volunteers to fill three open committee chair positions — Finance Advisory, Governance & Compliance, and Technology — as part of what the organization calls a modernization push. Existing committee leaders include Danielle Silverman (Coaching & Player Development), Lesley Stewart (Community, Events & Partnerships), Kelly Pierce (Fields & Scheduling), Matt DiRoberto and Sam Girgis (Equipment & Merchandise), and Brud Wright (Referee Development). The group is also continuing its referee certification program for players interested in officiating.
Wayland Little League marked the completion of the Eliza J. Norton Foundation's "Build with Heart" dugout project at Cochituate Park, a facility upgrade the league sponsored as a Champion Sponsor. With spring registration closed, Wayland Little League has opened registration for its summer program, directing questions to registrar@waylandlittleleague.org.
The league also recognized one of its own: WLL President Greg Deranian presented the 2025 Maxine Gordon Award to Chris Fay. Wayland Little League additionally reminded families that all baseball bats used in league play must carry a USA Baseball logo, warning that non-compliant bats — including some expensive models — will not be permitted.
