Bedford Sets Wednesday Forum on Former Fire Station's Future
BEDFORD — Bedford residents get their first formal say this week on what becomes of the town's former fire station property, as officials also announced a temporary rail-trail closure and a summer social event on the Town Common.

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council and town staff will host a virtual public forum Wednesday, July 22, to gather resident input on the future use of 55 The Great Road, the site of Bedford's former fire station, according to the town's website. The session is the first widely publicized step in what is expected to be a longer planning process for the property.
Separately, the town confirmed that the Narrow Gauge Rail Trail is temporarily closed at the Billerica town line while Billerica begins a two-year project to build its Yankee Doodle Bike Path starting from the Bedford line, per the town's website. No reopening date was given.
The Select Board and Town Manager's Office also announced the Bedford Summer Biergarten, a community gathering on the Town Common featuring music, beer and food; a specific date was not listed on the town's announcement.

Bedford Free Public Library's 2026 HEB Reads! Summer Reading Challenge remains open to adults, teens and kids through July 31, with participants logging reading minutes via Beanstack for prizes; pickup for earned prizes began June 1, per the library's website. Residents have just under two weeks left to register and log minutes before the challenge closes.
