Select Board approves new restaurant operator for Tyngsborough Sports Center.

TYNGSBOROUGH -- The Select Board voted 4-0-0 on August 31 to approve a liquor license transfer at Tyngsborough Sports Center, clearing the way for an expanded food and beverage operation at the Potash Hill Road facility.

TOWN -- Game Day Pizza and Tap Inc. is taking over the all-alcohol on-premises license currently held by Tyngsborough Sports Center, Inc., along with a new common victualler license, at 501 Potash Hill Road. Attorney and principal Darrell Wickens told the board it is "essentially a left pocket to right pocket transfer" under the same ownership, moving toward what he called a "full-scale restaurant" with a "sports-pub look" to serve families at the venue. He said the facility sees "consistent demand from the parents and the kids for food and beverage" during tournaments. The approved hours run Monday through Friday until 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday until midnight, which board member Nate Marino noted is in line with, and in some cases earlier than, the sports center's existing winter operating hours, when games can run until midnight. Board members asked about a possible future outdoor seating area; Wickens said that plan, if pursued, would require the operator to return to the board to amend the license premises description. The hearing drew no adverse comments from any town department.
