Warriors Boys Soccer JV Beats Framingham 1-0 In Season Opener
WAYLAND — Wayland High School's fall teams took the field for preseason play this week, with the boys soccer junior varsity squad opening with a 1-0 win over Framingham High School while the Warriors' field hockey program worked through a five-game jamboree at Lynnfield High School.
HIGH SCHOOL
Wayland's boys soccer teams hosted Framingham High School on Thursday at Wayland High School. The junior varsity Warriors won 1-0 at Wetlands Field, the week's only decided result on the schedule. The varsity squad also faced Framingham the same afternoon at Stadium Field, but no final score was recorded for that contest.
The Warriors' field hockey team opened its preseason Thursday on the road at Marlborough High School before heading to a jamboree hosted at Lynnfield High School on Saturday. Wayland ran through four separate scrimmages there over roughly three hours, facing St. Mary's High School of Lynn, Lynnfield High School, Swampscott High School and Amesbury High School across two fields. A second Wayland girls squad also played a Saturday morning matchup against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
None of the weekend's varsity soccer or field hockey contests carries an official final score in the schedule data, consistent with the scrimmage format teams typically use in the final week before the regular season opens. With Labor Day approaching, this week's games mark the Warriors' last tune-ups before fall schedules turn competitive.
YOUTH
Wayland Youth Soccer opens a new uniform-ordering window Monday, August 31, for BAYS travel teams in grade 3 and up. Players will be able to purchase black jersey, shorts and sock kits online or in person at Natick Outdoor Store, 38 North Ave. in Natick; numbers will be assigned by the store based on availability by grade and gender, with no exceptions, and players who already have uniforms from last year can keep wearing them through the spring 2027 season.
The Wayland Youth Basketball Association will open registration for its 2026-27 season on the same day, Monday, August 31, for boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Wayland Little League closed registration for its fall programs this week, but the league highlighted the completion of the Eliza J. Norton Foundation's "Build with Heart" dugout project at Cochituate Park. Wayland Little League served as a Champion Sponsor of the project, which the league said it is eager to see put to use by players this season.
LOOKING AHEAD
Wayland's fall high school teams move from scrimmages into regular-season play in the coming week, with boys soccer looking to build on its junior varsity win and field hockey opening after a busy slate of jamboree tests. On the youth side, Monday brings two registration and ordering deadlines at once: Wayland Youth Basketball Association opens sign-ups for its 2026-27 season, and Wayland Youth Soccer opens its BAYS travel uniform ordering window, both ahead of WAYS' September 12 fall kickoff.
