Townsend Opens Nomination Papers for Fall Special Election

Nomination papers are now available for a town special election, part of a busy fall election calendar that will bring Townsend voters to the polls three times in three months.

TOWN HALL

Town Hall announced that nomination papers are now available for an upcoming Special Election, giving residents interested in running for office their first formal step toward getting on the ballot. The announcement comes alongside news that Townsend voters face three separate elections this fall: September 1, October 6, and November 3, according to the town's News Flash feed.

In other administrative news, the town confirmed that Town Hall will be closed on Fridays through the end of August, a seasonal schedule change residents should note when planning visits for permits, licenses, or payments. Residents renewing curbside trash and recycling service for the 2026–2027 program year have until July 10 to do so. The town also flagged a water main flushing operation and gave notice of an upcoming aggregation sweep for Townsend's community electric aggregation program scheduled for July 13.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Townsend Public Library continues to promote its Summer Reading program along with ongoing offerings including museum passes, the Seed Library, and genealogy and local history resources for residents looking to dig into town history over the summer months. The library's Meeting Hall Art Gallery and its Townsend Hill Writers Symposium remain part of its slate of community programming highlighted on its site this week.

Townsend's summer band concert series, which kicked off June 11, continues to offer residents free outdoor music through the season, per the town's News Flash announcements.
