Tewksbury Select Board Sets May Town Meeting Dates, Hears Battery Storage Criticism

TEWKSBURY — January 6, 2026 — Tewksbury Select Board schedules May town meetings and faces sharp criticism over battery storage oversight. The board unanimously set the annual town meeting for May 4, 2026, and the special town meeting for May 6, both at Tewksbury Memorial High School, and opened the warrant window from January 7 through February 13. Town Manager Kieran Curran announced the hiring of consultant Paul Hayes to assist with the Host Community Agreement for the proposed East Point Energy battery storage facility, and said he is arranging a visit to a 150-megawatt facility in Carver before month's end. Resident Dawn Sheehan, of 100B Star Ave., told the board that assurances that the project would go before town boards were "an outright lie," while Jerry Corbin, of 82 Emerald Court, cited 237 individual Tewksbury residents who had filed opposition comments with the Energy Facilities Siting Board against 93 percent of pro-comments that originated from Sierra Club mass emails. The board also voted to place a $405,650 Shawsheen Valley Tech feasibility study request on the warrant and to invite Superintendent Tony McIntosh to present before the board prior to town meeting.
