Sudbury Issues Air Quality Alert, Marks 350th Anniversary of Sudbury Fight

Town health officials issued an air quality alert Thursday urging residents to take precautions, as Sudbury also formally recognized the 350th anniversary of the Sudbury Fight, one of the town's deadliest colonial-era conflicts.

TOWN HALL

The Sudbury Health Department issued an air quality alert on July 16, providing safety tips and resources for residents as conditions warrant caution, particularly for sensitive groups. The alert follows a separate mosquito advisory issued earlier in the week after the Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed West Nile virus in mosquitoes tested in nearby Hudson and Marlborough.

The town's Select Board issued a proclamation recognizing the 350th anniversary of the Sudbury Fight, a significant marker in the town's colonial history, a story Sudbury Patch also covered today. The Parks and Recreation Commission announced FIFA World Cup watch parties at the Fairbank Community Center, scheduled for Saturday, July 18 at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 19 at 2:30 p.m.

SCHOOLS

Sudbury Public Schools posted the notice and agenda for a School Committee meeting scheduled for Monday, July 20, along with notice of a School Committee executive session held July 17. A district Family Communication dated July 1 was also posted to the district news page, and the district shared a projected enrollment update as of July 1.

At Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, the district continues its transition to a new website, with content migration still in progress; no new Sudbury-specific announcements were posted in the past day.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Sudbury Senior Center is preparing several summer programs for residents, including a "Game Shows and Pizza with Kevin Richman" event set for Tuesday, July 21 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., featuring game-show favorites like Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune. An Ice Cream Social and Outdoor Games event follows on Tuesday, July 28 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., giving residents a chance to build their own sundaes and cool off from summer heat.

The Senior Center also announced it received a $225,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation, awarded in June, supporting its programs for older adults.
