Sudbury Conservation Commission approves removal of 16 Unisys monitoring wells

SUDBURY — July 13, 2026 — Sudbury Conservation Commission clears removal of 16 Unisys monitoring wells across town wetlands. The seven-member commission voted unanimously July 13 to issue a negative determination of applicability for RDA 26-12, allowing ERM Consulting to hand-decommission 16 groundwater monitoring wells around Davis Field, Barrel Farm, and the former Sperry Research Center this fall. ERM partner Lindsay Colburn said each well site will see roughly nine square feet of disturbance and be sealed with clay grout; 13 of the 16 wells sit within one or more resource areas. Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz noted 142 wells were originally installed after the 1980s chlorinated-solvent release, calling the network "this set of instrumentation across our biome" and asking why more couldn't be retained; Colburn said aging wells degrade and roughly 20 to 30 will remain. The commission also continued the six-times-delayed 94 Prides Crossing Road NOI to July 27 and issued a Certificate of Compliance at 45 Normandy Drive.
