Somerville's job trust maps 2026 strategy around Transmedics' 600-person hiring push. The Job Creation and Retention Trust voted 6-0-1 Thursday to approve its February minutes, with trustee Jim Hedgie abstaining. Director of Economic Development Rachel Nidkarni and Deputy Director Dana Whiteside were honored with the mayor's office's new Somerville Service Award for landing Transmedics' headquarters.

Staff reported a $2.68 million uncommitted balance and 13 active programs, with two more launching in April through the Somerville Community Corporation and Per Scholas. Trustees debated how to spend $81,000 set aside for small-business HR training support and how to gather input from employers ahead of a request for proposals expected in January 2027. "It seems that our conservative strategy has paid off," trustee Rand Wilson said.

Transmedics plans to hire 600 people and relocate 300 current employees, Nidkarni told the board.
