School Committee reviews elementary school solar canopy proposal

Town News Brief _ · Meeting of August 19, 2026

Tyngsborough Elementary School could get a solar canopy covering 95 percent of its electricity use at no direct cost to the district. The School Committee heard Tuesday that the town would enter a 25-year agreement to purchase the power generated, with officials still reviewing construction details before final approval. Separately, the Sustainability Committee reported trash tonnage rose about 2 percent last fiscal year while recycling rose 9 percent, with more food waste, appliances, scrap metal and textiles diverted from the waste stream.

Sewer smoke testing, described as non-toxic, began this week in several neighborhoods to check for system defects. The town's Capital Asset Management Committee also opened its review of finances and fiscal 2027 capital requests Tuesday night at Town Hall.
