School Committee Extends Spash Contract 7-0
School Committee · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Natick School Committee extends superintendent's contract and adopts a new district code of conduct. The board voted 7-0 to formally ratify Superintendent Dr. Spash's contract extension, a decision reached earlier in executive session, and voted 7-0 to adopt a new districtwide Student Rights, Responsibilities and Code of Conduct effective immediately.
Bennett-Hemingway Elementary was named a 2026 Massachusetts School of Recognition, with math scores up nine points and chronic absenteeism down to 3.4 percent from 7.7 percent. Budget subcommittee chair Catherine Brunell warned that draft Select Board financial management principles, which would phase out free cash from the operating budget by fiscal year 2032, "need to be revised" before they reshape future school funding. The committee also adopted a new "Protect Act" policy on law enforcement and civil immigration enforcement, 6-0-1, and learned the district hired architecture firm AI3 for an upcoming building project.
