Medford Approves Gas Equipment Exceptions at 3 Schools
School Committee · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Medford School Committee hears district's state ranking climbed to the 50th percentile. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kim Talbot walked the committee through 2026 state accountability data showing seven of eight schools improved ratings and two gained more than 10 percentage points.
The committee voted 7-0 to approve a $653,933.55 midyear budget transfer restructuring summer-school and security-overtime accounts, and 7-0, as amended, to approve Chief Operations Officer Kenneth Lord's request for natural-gas equipment replacements at Medford High School, the Roberts and the McGlynn, an exception to the committee's 2024 natural-gas purchasing ban. Members also approved $750 in Best Buddies donations from the First Baptist Church and heard from Fine and Performing Arts Director Suzanne Fee on a new student-painted mural, "At Our Core." "The life cycle cost analysis just didn't support replacing them with electric," Lord said of the hot-water tanks.
